BCC: basal cell carcinoma CT: computed tomography F-FDG: fluorodesoxyglucose GLUT1: glucose transporter 1 PET: positron emission tomography INTRODUCTION Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are considered the most common tumors of thewhite population. Even thoughmetastatic BCCs have an average survival rate as low as 3.6 years, there is a lack of consensus in the guidelines regarding imaging for BCC follow-up care. Fluorodesoxyglucose (F-FDG) positron emission tomographyecomputed tomography (PET/CT) imaging is established in the follow-up care of many cancer types but not in BCCs.

The Effects of Cyclin D1 and Bcl-2 Expressıon on Aggressive Behavior in Basal Cell and Basosquamous Carcinoma
Background and Objective: Clinical behavior of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is known to be different according to histological growth pattern and basosquamous cell carcinomas (BSC) are known with their aggressive behavior and metastatic capacity. In this study, we evaluated bcl-2 and cyclin D1 expressions in BCC and BSC cases comparatively, to explore their predictive value on the aggres...
متن کاملDetection by (18)F-FDG PET of unsuspected extensive bone marrow metastases in a case of basosquamous carcinoma of the cheek.
Basosquamous carcinoma (BSC) is a rare type of malignancy with features of both basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with a potential for aggressive behaviour infiltration and destruction. First reported by MacCormac in 1910 in a series of rodent ulcers, this entity does have an increased risk of recurrence and metastases as well, which distinguish it from other forms ...
متن کاملDifference in histological subtypes of basal cell carcinoma according to age, gender, location, mitotic activity and association with solar keratoses
Background and aim: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer in white-skin populations. Recent studies suggest that BCC is not a single entity and different histological subtypes show different clinical behavior and might have different etiology. The aim of this study was to assess differences in age, sex, site of distribution and proliferative activity in histological subtypes...
متن کاملImaging the metabolic footprint of Glut1 deficiency on the brain.
Cerebral 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in 14 patients with microcephaly, developmental delay, seizures, and mutations of the glucose transporter Glut1 (Glut1 deficiency syndrome) showed distinct abnormalities. Within a global context of diminished cortical uptake, more severe hypometabolism was found in the mesial temporal regions and thalami, accentuating a relative signa...
متن کاملMolecular mechanisms of [18F]fluorodeoxyglucose accumulation in liver cancer.
To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the insufficient sensitivity in the detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by [18F] 2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET), the characteristics of glucose metabolism-related protein expression in HCC were examined in liver metastasis from colorectal cancer (Meta). Thirty-four patients (14 Meta and 20 HCC) who underw...
